Corsairs Ground Eagles in KLAA Opener

Lakeland opens league season on the road.

The Waterford Mott Corsairs grounded the Eagles Friday night 53-43. 

opened up the KLAA season on the road and got off to a solid start in the first quarter lead by Nick Troxell and Tommy Yakel’s 3 point shots. With the scored tied at 9 heading into the second quarter, Mott outscored the Eagles 16-9 to take a 25-18 lead into the locker room at the half. 

Lakeland stormed back in the third quarter lead by senior forward Casey Palanca to take a 35-31 lead. Patient half court offense was the key to the spurt.

It was all Waterford Mott in the final quarter as the Corsairs inside game took over. Sophomore Nick Troxell led the way for the Eagles with 14 points followed by Tommy Yakel and Casey Palanca with 8 points each. 

The Eagles hit 11 of 16 from the free throw line.
