Does White Lake Have a "Scared Straight" Program?

Have a question for White Lake Police Chief Ed Harris? Email askthechiefwhitelake@gmail.com.

I'm wondering if White Lake has a scared straight program?  I've got a teenager that could use a program like this...

Shawn
White Lake

Chief Edward Harris: Shawn, unfortunately White Lake does not have a scared straight program.

Thanks,
Edward Harris
Chief of Police

Editor's Note: While White Lake does not have a program, Oakland County's Jail was recently featured on A&E's television show Beyond Scared Straight. A scared straight program is one that is used to show at-risk teens the consequences of committing crimes. In Oakland County there is the U-Turn program which helps to educate youth and their parents about the consequences of crime and the realities of prison life. More information on this program is available at http://www.oakgov.com/sheriff/community_services/uturn.html

Judging by the short response by the Chief, I'm assuming that a program is also not in the works. That's too bad; I know of a few kids who might benefit by a program such as the Scared Straight program. However, there is a weekend program, that I have been looking into in Brighton, MI http://www.midcoursecorrection.org.

It might be something to talk to the Chief about. He might be open to having such a program, I suggest giving the department a call. Never hurts to ask.
