Fire Destroys Highland Family's Home

The family needs donations of clothes and pet items according to a family friend.

A fire Wednesday night destroyed a home on the 200 block of Sutherland in Highland.

According to the Oakland County Sheriff's Office, the cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Tina Engle, a neighbor of the home's owner, said the family was able to escape the fire without injury along with their cat, dog and bird. However, the home and everything in it was destroyed.

Engle said the family needs the following items:

  • Dog food
  • Cat food
  • Bird food
  • Women's pants, size 8
  • Women's shirts, size large
  • Boy's pants, size 14
  • Girl's clothes, size 6/7
  • Men's shoes, size 7 1/2
  • Girl's shoes, size 11 1/2
  • Blankets
  • Household goods/toiletries

Engle said all items can be dropped off at 250 Sutherland Drive in Highland.

I believe you can drop off those items at any time. And yes, I haven't heard otherwise about them getting everything that need. I think they only need what's on the list, though I know some people have opted to give them gift cards instead.

Please have Renee (or someone who has close personal knowledge of her situation) send me a message at contact@voteforvogel.com.
we are finalizing the sale of an estate, and there are a number of appliances that are otherwise not included in the sale of the house that *could* be given to her if there is a way to get them from Wayne County to Highland (someone has a truck and two people's worth of strong hands...?)

I would like a detailed list of what this family needs. I have someone in my freecycle group asking for items that it sounds like this family doesn't need any longer.
Thanks!

Sassyme, the 12 year old boy needs clothes, he is size 14. if anyone has extra toys that are no longer being used that would be really nice. the 7 year old girl is set on clothes and so is mom. i will have a more detailed list tomorrow. i honestly hope that no one is gaining off renee's misfortune she is a wreck, this has truly devastated this family, even tho they are extremely grateful that no one is hurt and they are together. this has flipped renee's whole world completely upside down.

okay im going to vent a little,
first and foremost thank you all who have donated or who made a effort to contact others for donations, we love you for it :) now sadly there is "talk" regarding renee receiving too much ???! how awful. so allow me to ease the few minds who are so small they are unable of things such as understanding,or maybe compassion, anything that is donated to renee that she either does not want or will never use is being 1) offered back if she knows where it came from or 2) being taken to either salvation army or open door the falsely that renee wants to or is making any profit from this is totally and utterly absurd renee has suffered a traumatic event. to walk away from your destroyed burned down home, with nothing except the clothes on your back, well i can not explain i can't even imagine how awful that would be. i have listened to her cry,i know how devastated she is, and if others feel in their hearts to give to her god-bless them and to those who feel as if they have to judge well shame on you if she ends up with a extra pair of sheets,or a extra blanket or (heaven forbid) a new pair of p.j's.what business is it of ur's until you yourself loose EVERY SINGLE item you own, and are forced to live in a 1 rm cottage, everything you and your 2 babies own squeezed into a room that the 3 of you also have to sleep in, until that day you have no right to judge her. what she gets from those willingly, happily, and lovingly give is of no concern to you.

Karrie,
that is exactly what I was told and have told others, that any excess is being donated to either the Goodwill OR to Open Door.
I don't believe that Renee is making off like a bandit from her misfortune at all. However, she has a "friend" that is using Renee's misfortune to her advantage.
I have directed the members of my freecycle group to this article which has your phone number it. It's best to deal with you directly rather than the "friend" who is IMO attempting to benefit from Renee's misfortune.

Sassyme, thank-you so much! i wish i could have called you today i really wanted to,somehow numbers got erased from my phone,my dad had a heart attack yesterday:( but he is doing well it's been quite the week! anywho.. no renee never recieved the items we talked about yesterday, no coffee pot nor a laundry basket filled or empty.. so yes that is sad, not so much for renee but the simple fact that anyone would use her situation for their own personal gain. and i thank-you very much for putting a stop to that nonsense. please call me anytime if you have any questions. it's nice having someone like you to watch out, because i was not prepared for the amount of work this takes,,so i can't thank-you enough.

Karrie,
I've posted in my freecycle group for clothing for the boy and toys for the children.
If I get a response, I'll call you.
And the person in my freecycle group taking things for Renee and not giving them to her has been removed from the group.

good, pretty sure i know who it is, how sad. and she had the audacity to threaten me with reporting me, saying renee doesnt need these items! here is the thing...renee does have any emergency items needed, everyone has been SO AWESOME! however, there is so much more she is going to need as she gets ready to move into a new home, yes the little cottage is packed! but i thought the whole point of all this was to get renee even past the emergency point, so her and her babies dont have to strss. in any case, thank-you sandy that was the sweetest thing i've seen through all this yet! you are amazing! p.s renee was so exited about being able to take kids out to eat thanks to you!
