Sitting in the cozy bagel shop it was a question I heard asked at least five times by guests perusing the bagel selection at the newly opened Bagel Factory in Highland: "What's a fragel?"

I heard the description so many times in the short hour I was there, I couldn't help but give it a try.

A fragel is a cinnamon raisin bagel that is deep-fried and then rolled in sugar. When paired with one of the many cream cheese flavors, it's a sweet treat that's hard to resist. While a little messy to eat, I loved the the combination of the cinnamon bagel and sugar. The cream cheese, while flavored, balanced the sweetness of the bagel nicely for a filling morning meal.

Offering more than 32 varieties of bagels, baked fresh each morning, and a large selection of cream cheese, baked good and sandwiches The Bagel Factory is a great new addition to the local businesses located in the mostly vacant strip mall off Milford Road just past the entrance to Milford High School.

The store opened in March, replacing Zaydee's Coffee House which closed in 2011. In addition to the food, the store features Cadillac Coffee, seven fresh brewed flavors, smoothies, frappuccinos and a variety of ice cold drinks.

The Bagel Factory, located at 2330 S. Milford Road in Highland, is open now for summer hours: Tuesday-Thursday 6 a.m. to 2 p.m., Friday 6 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Saturday-Sunday 7 a.m. to 2 p.m.
