It’s almost here! Highland HeyDays is coming back this year on September 8th & 9th. The festival will kick off with the “Mutt Strut” hosted by Huron Valley Recreation and Community Education at 11am. This is a mild one-mile walk beginning at the corner of Harvey Lake Road and Livingston Road at the Spring Mills Dam. This event is sponsored by Veterinary Care Specialists. For more information, please visit www.huronvalleyrec.com.
There will be children’s activities, face painting, pony rides, and a petting zoo. Vendors will also line the streets on Saturday from 11am to 5pm with local businesses, rescue groups, pet groups, food and more. The Milford High School Baseball team will host a Euchre Tournament from 5pm to 7pm, with registration beginning at 4:30pm. There will be fun for children, families, pets and our entire community both Saturday, September 8 th and Sunday, September 9th.
The beer tent, sponsored by Miller Lite, Comeback Inn and the Highland-White Lake Business Association will be open from 11am to 11pm on Saturday and 12pm to 4pm on Sunday. Comcast is sponsoring the event also with broadcast college football in the beer tent. The Highland Feed/Highland Equestrian Conservancy Square Dance will be held on the east side of Livingston Road from 7pm to 9pm. This annual Square Dance will benefit the Aicardi Foundation and feature Special Guest Caller, Glen Morningstar. In addition, the Saturday evening festivities will provide raffles, food and DJ entertainment. We will have a great time while raising money for our local charities. Saturday, the festival will begin at 11am, and will be in full swing until 11pm.
Sunday Highland Heydays will feature the Pet-A-PALooza portion of the festival with a street fair setting; including vendors, pet demonstrations, pet rescue groups, displays and information. “Rock ‘N Roll K-9’s” will perform again this year with their incredible team of dogs. The Huron Valley Council for the Arts will have their Outdoor Art Exhibit on display all weekend on the Southeast corner of Milford Road and Livingston. Highland HeyDays will also feature crafts, face painting, pony rides and more. This is an effort to unite the community, and provide a FREE festival for families, while benefiting the Pet Pantry at Community Sharing.
Families often look for new and exciting activities to enjoy, and Highland HeyDays provides just that. We are bringing back the old street-fair to our neighborhood…just like in the ‘hey day’. Over a thousand residents enjoyed this event last year and This year promises to be bigger and better. We hope that your increased support will enhance this exciting festival.
