Huron Valley Schools Names Interim Superintendent
The Huron Valley Schools Board of Education voted Thursday night to fill the vacancy left by the resignation of Superintendent Jackie Johnston.
The following is a press release from the Huron Valley School District.
The Huron Valley Board of Education voted 6-0 Thursday, March 1, to appoint Jim Baker, Executive Director of Human Resources, as interim superintendent effective May 1, 2012.
Baker has served in Huron Valley Schools (HVS) since July 2010. Prior to serving in HVS he was employed as Director of Human Resources for the Romulus Community Schools. He holds an Education Specialist Degree in Educational Leadership from Wayne State University.
Board members appointed Baker following the resignation of current Superintendent Jackie Johnston, who has accepted the same position with L’Anse Creuse Public Schools.
HVS Board President Sean Carlson reiterated the board’s desire to appoint a member of the Superintendent’s Central Office Administrative Team in order to allow a smooth transition from Superintendent Johnston to Interim Superintendent Baker. Superintendent Johnston’s administrative team is made up of Baker, Deputy Superintendent Nancy Coratti, Assistant Superintendent for Administrative Services Donna Welch and Kim Root, Director of Communications and Community Relations.
The HVS Board will lay out a timeline for a permanent replacement for Johnston within the next 30 days, according to Mr. Carlson.
“Mr. Baker brings a wealth of experience to the interim superintendent’s position,” Mr. Carlson said. “We are grateful that he is willing to step in and help guide the District.”
