Lakeland Shuts Down Waterford Kettering 54-43

Senior Troy Baerston paced the Eagles with 16 points in the win.

shut down Waterford Kettering 54-43 in KLAA action Tuesday evening. Senior guard Troy Baerston paced the Eagles with a game high 16 points. He played a solid floor game. 

Sophomore Nick Troxell was steady in the lane and on the boards for the Eagles. He finished with 12 points.

The first quarter was tight throughout with Lakeland holding an 8-7 lead at the end of the first 8 minutes. The Eagles broke the game open with a 21-11 run in the second quarter to take a 29-18 lead into the locker room. Baerston hit two 3-pointers from beyond the arc to lead the run.

The teams traded baskets in the 3rd quarter as the Eagle defense held Kettering to just 10 points as they led 39-28. Lakeland’s offense was productive in the final quarter especially from the free throw line. 

Coach Brugger said he was pleased with the effort, “Our defense was better tonight. We communicated on defense and we are making small strides.”

Troy Baerston seemed to be in a zone as he played his best game of the season. 

“I was motivated to have a big game tonight and I was feeling good tonight," Baerston said. "I think I got a little better without running the point and playing the two tonight.”

Lakeland had their best night of the season from the free throw line as they scored 21 points from the charity stripe.

The Eagles are on the road Friday night as travel to Walled Lake Western.
