Lakeland Track Athlete Hit By Car
During training along Bogie Lake Road, the student athlete was struck by a car after falling into the roadway.
A 16-year-old Lakeland High School student athlete was transported to the hospital Thursday afternoon after being hit by a car on Bogie Lake Road near Sugden Lake.
According to a report filed with the White Lake Police Department, the track team was running along the roadway after school. The teen, the report states, lost his footing along the side of the road and fell into oncoming traffic. He was struck by a vehicle and suffered an injury to his leg.
Lt. Adam Kline said the accident couldn't be avoided, and that the driver of the car stopped and helped the teen.
There were no citations given, and charges will not be filed against the driver, "It was a freak accident," Kline said.

Yet another example of why we need more sidewalks!

I am a novice runner, and I feel like I'm taking my life in my hands, literally, to try running anywhere but on the 1.5 mile "loop" in my own subdivision's streets. The shoulders on the roads are narrow and poorly maintained. It's not safe to run nor to ride a bike on the shoulders.

We need sidewalks on M59 we have people on bikes or walking on the road. They could start there so people can walk to the stores.
