The Lakeland volleyball team ousted Walled Lake Central Tuesday night in the first round of the district tournament. The lady Eagles dropped the first game 27-25 at North Farmington High School. The loss seemed to re-focus the Eagles as they took control of the match in game two. Lead by seniors Kelly Merkle and Carolyn Niehaus, Lakeland took game two, 25-18. Merkle had 42 assists in the match while Niehaus had 15 digs.

In the third game, the Eagles jumped out to a 9-2 lead as the Vikings called time out. Maddie Harris and Lindsay Tanner lead the barrage with impressive kills putting Lakeland on cruise control to win 25-11. Game four was a back and forth game highlighted by stingy defense. After a Walled Lake Central timeout, the lady Vikings went on a mini-run to narrow the margin to 19-14. Coach Dukic called a timeout as the Eagles held a 23-18 lead. Harris closed out the win with a kill giving the Eagles a 25-18 victory. Maddie Harris had 13 kills while the Leonard twins combined for 13 kills.

The KLAA North Division and Conference Champions (25-10-2) advance to the second round of the district tournament on Thursday evening where they will take on Walled Lake Western (8-16-1) at 5 p.m.
