White Lake Township Police responded Sep. 5 at 8:19 a.m. to a report of burglary and forced entry at the Chair Lift Operations Building of the Alpine Valley Ski Lodge, 6775 East Highland Road, according to a police report.

The suspects stole boots, flashlights, helmets, snowboards and other ski supplies, the report said. They also stole a garbage can with which to transport the stolen items.

At some point during the burglary, the blue dye used to marks the runs on the trails was spilled near the break-in, according to the report, and there were two sets of boot prints in the dye.

Police also found tracks left by the stolen garbage can, which led to the White Lake View Motel, the report said. Police followed the tracks to a room and found a male who had some blue dye on him and whose boots matched the tread pattern at the store, the report said.

Police arrested him and recovered some of the stolen property. The man was released for medical treatment after he had a seizure in custody. When the police returned to question him, they found another man who also had blue dye on him. Police arrested him, and he named a third person who police have not found.

Some witnesses said they saw the second man moving snowboards to another location, according to the report. Police recovered the stolen snowboards from a location in Highland on Sep. 7. 

$38,000 Track Loader Stolen

A 2004 Takeuchi Bobcat Track Loader worth $38,000 was stolen sometime between Sep. 1 and 4 from a Great Oaks Landscape construction site, near the 6000 block of Cooley Lake Road, according to a police report.

Police have no suspects.
