Police: Solicitors Warned After Going Door-to-Door Without Permit
The following information was supplied by White Lake Township Police. Arrests and charges do not indicate convictions.
White Lake police were called to the 9000 block of Buckingham in White Lake after residents complained about solicitors in the area.
According to the report, when officers arrived they found two men who were going door-to-door for a window company. Police checked the men's ID's and asked for their permits.
The report states that the men did not have a permit to solicit in White Lake.
Under a township ordinance passed last year, anyone wanting to solicit in the township as part of a company must have a permit from the township.
The men were given warnings and given a ride by police to where they needed to be picked up.

AWESOME!! If it is the same window company that is/was always in our neighbourhood, I am very happy that WLPD escorted them out! Our subdivision was inundated with their "representatives" stating they were doing work at a home down the street. Every time I asked where that was they had no idea. I hope their home company will take note of the townships ordinance.

It is really too bad the township just couldn't ban solicitations completely. I'm always worried when they seem way too interested in the property and are too agressive on the doorbell. A number of times they have scared my wife when I wasn't home.

That's why I put a sign on my door that says ABSOLUTELY NO SOLICITATION! Ever since we put that up, we have not been approached.

Thanks to the informed citizens who were aware of the ordinance and cared enough to call and great follow up by White Lake PD!
Citizens should note that the township is conducting a poll on it's website asking "Would you like to see the Township Board meetings televised?"
Let them know what you think @:

Approximately a month ago I had a man come to my door after dark. Never thinking it would be anyone but perhaps a neighbor, I answered it. Standing on my porch was a man with a container of Clorox wipes in his hand, no identification or other product that he could be selling. His truck was pulled up so close to my garage that I would have to leave the house in order to see it clearly. He asked if I knew why he was there standing with the wipes and said that he could be on my premesis until 9 pm if he wanted to. I informed him that he had 30 seconds to leave my property before I let my dogs out. He backed up across my lawn (1/2 acre) behind my shed and into the tree line to leave. My guess is that he did this to avoid me seeing his vehicle plate. I called the police who came to my house immediately and also informed me that solicitors with permits are not allowed to be out past dark. The police were not aware of anyone that had a permit to out in the neighborhood on the date this occured. Please be aware because this person had nothing on his person that make one think he was selling something and he tried to use a tactic that would be puzzling (Clorox wipes) to catch me off guard. Thankfully this did not work as I locked my door immediately. Be careful and contact the police if you should have an concerns because they were absolutely wonderful!!
I also have the window salesmen who are doing a job in my neighborhood bothering me.
