White Lake Township Looks at Building Sidewalk in Front of Senior Center

The sidewalk will provide a connection to the North Broadmoor neighborhood on Haymarket Street.

North Broadmoor neighborhood residents could soon get their wish of a brand new sidewalk along Union Lake Road, connecting Haymarket Street to the Dublin Senior Center and Vetter Park

White Lake Township Board Members unanimously approved a cost study Tuesday night for the construction of the sidewalk connection.

The sidewalk connection will be approximately 220 feet long and 5 feet wide and would cost about $3,000 to $4,000, according to Planning Director Sean O'Neil. However, the township hopes to save money by soliciting bids for the sidewalk connection along with an additional sidewalk construction at the senior center planned for this spring.

The connection will be paid for using parks and recreation funds.

Keith McKenzie, president North Broadmoor Homeowners Association, said many homes surround Vetter Park, but the only way for kids to get there is to walk on the grass or in the street on Union Lake Road.

"It's a greatly needed connection, not only to our sub(division), but to the many subs behind us for our kids to get across," he said.

"I'm in very much support of it, being handicapped and in a wheelchair myself," Township Trustee Carol Burkard said. "If I lived over there, it would be nice for me to be able to go someplace."

Burkard said she had a concern that it was time to install security cameras in the area, since the fake camera was stolen from the building.

"There's a possibility for people doing some damage," she said. "That would be my recommendation to protect the property."

Taxpers: You all missed a great meeting, their was a lot of grandstanding by some of the board members(just what they were trying to avoid) and it was very clearly stated by a board member why their is never any help from the public to get any project done anywhere in the township, the taxpayers will have to write a check to get things done, unless the work is approved by this board member(The bad part of this is, this board member wouldn't stepup and help they just want to complain after the fact, on how they think it should be done) anyone that heard that comment last night will think twice about giving their time to help out. The future projects in the township will cost more money and take more time, because no one will give of their free time.

I wasn't able to make the meeting, Rog. Can you explain in a little bit more detail what you mean? What is this "project" that was thwarted from using volunteers? Can you also explain how it came up that Board members should or should not be expected to "volunteer" to do projects? We can all be quite sure the official minutes (when they finally become publicly available eventually, probably 2+ months from now) won't reflect that level of detail. So a first-hand account is all that we can rely upon. Thanks much
