The following was submitted to White Lake Patch by Karen Jacobs. "Play as one, win as one," was the chant heard from the Lakeland freshmen football team before and after the game Thursday. A spectacular effort was put forth as the Lakeland freshmen defeated the Northville Mustangs 24-6.   Their first home game is Wednesday, Aug. 31. GO EAGLES!

The Friends of Highland Recreation Area (FOHRA) are once again proud to announce that they will be hosting a summer event in the historic Haven Hill section of the Highland State Recreation Area on Saturday, Aug. 27. Haven Hill was once a country estate belonging to Edsel and Eleanor Ford beginning in the 1920’s. The following was sent to White Lake Patch Editor Brooke Meier. It’s that time again. Crisp mornings and warm afternoons. Drive by any high school and you’ll see them, in full pads, running, passing, blocking and tackling. The work is hard, the determination is strong and the bond is tight. These are “the boys of fall.” For freshman it is something new, this is high school football, and while some have played for years, for others it is just the beginning.  Under the direction of head coach, Bob Grawe, the team has worked hard to be game ready. The meeting was called because the Michigan Education Association’s (MEA) Board of Directors asked us to consider whether or not the HVEA would support “crisis activities that could include a job action.” Over 75% of HVEA members voted. The resolution was approved. However, I need to reassure parents and citizens that the very, very, very last option any HVEA member wants to consider is a job action or withholding …
The following was sent to White Lake Patch Editor Brooke Meier: Huron Valley Schools, in the face of challenging and uncertain times, has to look at a multitude of decisions, such as building utilization, to meet the educational needs of our students as well as address our financial issues. Whenever the District looks at our educational programming and building configurations, what drives our discussion and decision making is what is best for our students and the community. Since 2006, Huron Valley has conducted significant building utilization studies to maximize resources for our core …
The Friends of Highland Recreation Area (FOHRA) achieved another milestone in their efforts at Haven Hill, the former pastoral estate owned by Edsel and Eleanor Ford within present-day Highland State Recreation Area. In addition to the successful cleanup last year of the huge debris pile left by a damaging 2008 storm at the Edsel Ford Barn, the all-volunteer group has now removed all asbestos contamination from the barn and the gatehouse garage in the form of old flooring tiles, vermiculite, pipe insulation and other materials. Donations raised by FOHRA were used to pay for the professional …
