Wakeboarders Kick Off 2013 Quake-On-The-Lake Friday July 19

Between 50-100 amateur wakeboarders are expected to compete in the Malibu World Wakeboard Association’s Rider Experience July 19-21 at the 14th Annual Quake-On-The Lake on Pontiac Lake in White Lake/Waterford Townships.

Free Ride Friday, July 19 is a special event for non-competitors. The WWA Wakeboard East Regional Championships will be held on Saturday July 20 from 4pm until dusk.

Chris Laske, a former wakeboarding competitor who now teaches the sport, says judging is based on style, cleanness of performance, difficulty of the tricks, execution and style. Points can be deducted, notes Laske, if a competitor touches any part of his body to the water. He explains that wakeboarders are pulled behind a boat whose speed can reach anywhere between 17 and 24 miles per hour. More weight is added to the boat which creates a bigger wake and as a result, a bigger jump.
