Good morning, White Lake, here's what you need to know about today.

1. The weather

The National Weather Service says we can expect mostly sunny skies today, with a high near 36. A chance of flurries comes during the evening hours with mostly cloudy and a low around 24. 

2. Gas prices

According to DetroitGasPrices.com, the lowest reported gasoline price in the White Lake area as of Tuesday night was $3.21 per gallon at the Mobil gas station at 8000 Cooley Lake Rd & S Williams Lake Rd.

3. On this day in history

According to History.com, at 7:55 a.m. Hawaii time a swarm of 360 Japanese warplanes descended on the U.S. naval base at Pearl Harbor in a ferocious, surprise attack that struck a critical blow against the U.S. Pacific fleet and drew the United States irrevocably into World War II.

The day after Pearl Harbor was bombed, President Roosevelt appeared before a joint session of Congress and declared, "Yesterday, December 7, 1941--a date which will live in infamy--the United States of America was suddenly and deliberately attacked by naval and air forces of the Empire of Japan." 

The Unites States joined the Allied war effort, which spanned four years and cost more than 400,000 American lives.

4. In the news: Oakland County Veterans Group sponsored a Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day commemorative event. 

According to the Oakland Press, the Oakland County Veterans Group sponsored a Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day event at UAW Local 653 in Pontiac yesterday with featured speaker Mike Zehnder. Zehnder, a former Marine and Vietnam veteran, regularly speaks at veterans’ events throughout Oakland County.

5. Made In Michigan Gift Basket 'Benefit' Workshop

Deneweth's Garden Center and Michigan Made Garden Market & Gifts will host the from 7-9 p.m. today. There is a $5 per person entry fee which will be donated to Village Elementary School in Hartland to help local families in need.
