5 Things to Know Today: Dec. 8, 2011

Good morning, White Lake, here's what you need to know about today.

1. The weather

The National Weather Service says we can expect some snow today and in through the evening hours with a 30-40 percent chance of snow showers after noon. It will be partly sunny, with a high near 35. 

2. Gas prices

According to DetroitGasPrices.com, the lowest reported gasoline price in the White Lake area as of Wednesday night was $3.25 per gallon at the Speedway gas station at 9601 Highland Rd & White Banks Blvd.

3. On this day in history

According to History.com, on this day in 1980, John Lennon, a former member of the Beatles, was shot and killed by an obsessed fan in New York City. The 40-year-old artist was entering his luxury Manhattan apartment building when Mark David Chapman shot him four times at close range with a .38-caliber revolver.

Chapman, a borderline psychotic, pled guilty to murder and was sentenced to 20 years to life.

5. Toys for Tots Holiday Party at Lakeland High School
