Baby, It's Cold Outside and White Lake Kids Need Coats, Too

The White Lake police and fire departments, along with businesses and concerned local residents, want to make sure that kids stay warm this winter.

The White Lake police and fire departments are again collecting cold-weather clothing in the eighth annual Kids Need Coats Drive.

Expectations are high this holiday season, according to a news release.

The goal is to keep local kids warm and comfortable throughout the cold winter season by providing new or gently used winter coats, boots, and cold weather clothing, Sharon Stoia of the fire department said in a news release.

The team, which includes local businesses and concerned residents, cannot do this alone, Stoia said.

The White Lake Fire and Police departments are encouraging the White Lake Township residents to participate by giving in any way possible.

“With the difficult economic climate in Oakland County, the need for assistance is greater than ever,” Stoia said. “If you do not have a coat to donate, we accept cash or check donations.”

JC Penney and Walmart stores in White Lake have been phenomenal in their efforts supporting the Kids Need Coats Drive, she said. Generous donations have also come from the White Lake Meijer’s store, ITC Holdings, and Gershenson Realty.

Donations should be dropped off at the JC Penney or Walmart store between 10 a.m.-4 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 7.

Checks should be made payable to the White Lake Township Fire Department, and a note should be added in the memo line that the donation is for the coat drive. Donations should be mailed to: White Lake Fire Department 7420 Highland Road, White Lake, MI  48383.

Questions should be directed to White Lake Firefighter Steve Hanneman at (248) 698-3335.
