Upcoming Senior Show Features Broadway Tunes

White Lake residents to star in Novi's annual senior variety show.

More than 50 older adults have been rehearsing for weeks to present The Bright Lights of Broadway, the 2012 Novi Senior Variety Series production, this September 6-16 at the .

The Bright Lights of Broadway is a tour of Broadway tunes from the classics to modern hits. The production features dance numbers, musical acts and comedy.

“The Senior Variety Series is a win-win for the Novi community,” said Stephanie Schuetzler, cultural arts coordinator. “The shows provide an opportunity for hundreds of people to get out, socialize, eat a great meal and have fun while the actors are actively engaged throughout the production, singing, dancing or reciting memorized lines.”

This year's show will feature some new cast members from of White Lake. Actvity Director Rita Shandon said she has brought residents from the retirement community to watch the show every year.

"They love it so much that, this year, seven residents have joined the cast," Sandon said. "Although it is a challenge for some, their participation is bringing forth feelings of self-esteem and excitement. They are excited to entertain their peers.”

Luncheon performances will be at noon Thursdays, September 6 and 13 and Fridays, September 7 and 14. Matinee performances will be at 2 p.m. on Sundays, September 9 and 16.

Tickets for luncheon performances are $20 each, while tickets for matinee performances are $15 each.

Tickets are available now at cityofnovi.org, by calling 248-347-0400, or at the Novi Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services Department in the .

Groups purchasing 15 tickets receive the 16th free. Group coordinators must call 248-347-0400.
