The Friends of Highland Recreation Area (FOHRA) are once again proud to announce that they will be hosting a summer event in the historic Haven Hill section of the Highland State Recreation Area on Saturday, Aug. 27. Haven Hill was once a country estate belonging to Edsel and Eleanor Ford beginning in the 1920’s. The Haven Hill Festival will be open to the public from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. in the Goose Meadow picnic area.

Highlights of the days’ event will include an 1860’s Base Ball game at 1 p.m. featuring the Haven Hill Barn Stormers. Players will be wearing 1800’s-era uniforms and abide by period rules such as wearing no gloves to catch the ball! In addition to the base ball game, vintage Model A Ford cars owned by members of the Livingston A's will be on display at the event for the public to enjoy. Historic artifacts and photo displays will also be set up for public viewing and education about Haven Hill’s history. An amazing collection of never-been-seen-before historic photographs donated to FOHRA this last year will be presented as well. Come catch a glimpse into the history of Haven Hill in photographs taken by Harry and Amy North, the original housekeepers employed by Edsel and Eleanor Ford.

Summer food and beverages will be sold by the Friends group as a fund raiser. A shuttle van will available to transport the public around the park to the various Haven Hill structures being restored by the Friends of Highland Recreation Area. Van transportation will take interested people up and down haven hill to see the Haven Hill Carriage House and Lodge site. A self-guided photo tour will be available to the public in the footprint of the former lodge high atop Haven Hill road.

The entrance to the park is located on M-59 (Highland Road) east of Duck lake road and west of Bogie Lake road in White Lake. Access to the event in the Haven Hill section of the park will be via this M-59 (Highland Road) entrance. The Goose Meadow picnic area and ball field is the first right turn off of Haven Hill Road after entering the park. MDNR employees will be glad to direct you.
