Need to Know: Library Shutdown
The library is closing its doors for the month of August.
The for a month, but that doesn't mean you can't still enjoy all it has to offer.
Throughout the month, White Lake Patch will include area library events on the calendar for those looking for programs to attend nearby. In addition, books, DVDs, CDs and more will be available to residents at libraries in Waterford, Commerce, Milford, West Bloomfield and Highland.
For more information, check out the following questions and answers complied by the library:

What will be happening in August?
To maintain your Library building investment and to improve future library service we are re-carpeting, painting and reorganizing our now 10 year old Library building. Library materials and internet access for Adults will be moved to the first floor. The Youth and Teen materials along with the Children’s computers are moving to the lower level for better access to the multipurpose room and patio. Closure is necessary to insure public safety and to complete the move as efficiently and economically possible.

When will the library be closed?
The Library will be closed for the month of August, which is generally our slowest month. We will reopen on the Wednesday after Labor Day; September 7, 2011. We will open prior to that date if at all possible.
Will I be able to use other libraries while the Library is closed?
Yes, we share resources with over sixty 60 TLN (The Library Network) libraries in the Detroit Metro Area. You must present a valid Library card when you use other Libraries. Most Libraries will not accept driver’s licenses in place of a Library card. For your information we have attached maps and information regarding our neighboring libraries.
What neighboring libraries will I be able to borrow materials from?
You may visit any of the TLN Libraries and check out materials. Please be aware that the checkout periods and fines for overdue items may be different at other libraries. For example, some libraries have a one or three day check out for DVDs, some charge for DVD rental and some charge $1 a day late fee for DVDs.
We share our catalog with many TLN libraries including Highland, Waterford, Commerce, Milford and Springfield Libraries. You may request items online through our shared catalog system and at the end of the transaction you will be prompted for your preferred neighboring library pickup location, i.e., Highland, Waterford, Commerce, Milford and Springfield Libraries. You may also use and pick up materials at other TLN libraries that may be near your place of work or in the path of your other personal activities.
When using the online catalog, will I be required to select a different pick up location?
Beginning July 20th, all items requested through our online catalog will require you to pick a different pick up location than White Lake Township.
Will I be able to use the public internet at our neighboring libraries?
Yes. When you present a valid Library card you will be able to use the public internet at our neighboring Libraries. The exception to this rule is the West Acres Branch of the West Bloomfield Library, which restricts access to West Bloomfield residents.
Will I be able to use the public internet at our neighboring libraries?
Please be aware that print costs and internet time restrictions may be different at other Libraries. Most other libraries do not allow for the three free pages a day of internet printing.
When will my items be due?
Return any items borrowed from other Libraries according to their due date.
In general all White Lake Township items checked out after July 25th will be due when we reopen on Wednesday, September 7, 2011.
Books checked out after July 11th will be due on September 7. New books, audiobooks and music CDs checked out after July 18th will be due September 7. DVDs and Magazines checked out after July 25th will be due September 7, 2011.
Where can I return items?
You may always return items in our book drop prior to the due date. Our book drop is on the side of the building near the green recycle bin. You may also return items to neighboring Libraries. Staff members will check in materials and send other libraries materials back via our normal library delivery system.
Is there an email address or phone number I can call to ask Library Service related questions while the Library is closed?
Email questions can be sent to reference@whitelakelibrary.org and should be answered within one business day. If you prefer to communicate via telephone please call our main telephone number at 248-698-4942 X4 (Circulation). Telephone calls should also be returned within one business day, however please be aware that telephone service to the Library may be interrupted during our move.
