3. On this day in history
On this day in 1980, according to History.com, American oil businessman Armand Hammer paid $5,126,000 at auction for a notebook with writings by legendary artist Leonardo da Vinci. The notebook, from around 1508, contains notes and drawings that relate to water and how it moves. Experts have said that da Vinci drew on it to paint the background of the Mona Lisa.
