Best Thing I Ate This Week: Fried Oreos

This week's selection comes from the shire of Hollygrove, home to the Michigan Renaissance Festival.

Every year, for as long as I can remember, I've gone to the Michigan Renaissance Festival. I look forward to two things each year as the festival approaches, the food and the people watching.

If you've never been, I highly recommend catching the closing weekend, Sept. 29- Sept. 30. Not only will you be treated to ale, jousting, mermaids and giant, delicious turkey legs - but you'll also get to take part in the annual end of festival chocolate festival.

This week's winner of "The Best Thing I Ate" is a dish I've only ever found at the festival - fried Oreos.

The Oreos were highly recommended to me by the woman working the information desk. Should you decide to attend the festival this weekend, stop by the fried dessert stand and do yourself a favor - try the Oreos. You'll only need to order one basket (it comes with six Oreos, perfect for sharing), and you won't be sorry. The Oreos melt in the heat of the frying process and combine with the cream filling for a delicious twist on the classic cookie.

If you're feeling adventerous, you can also try the fried twinkie, fried Snickers bar or fried Reece's peanut butter cups.
