Commerical Developments Continue to Progress in White Lake

Fisk Corners Phase 2, other new retail stores along Highland Road move closer to completion.

Construction at Fisk Corners is nearing completion, as the township looks to to bring in more businesses and fill vacant retail spaces throughout the township.

The construction of the Phase 2 Fisk Corners development along M-59 to the west of Fisk should be completed within the next few weeks, said White Lake Township Planner Jason Iacoangeli. Local developer Sant Habash LLC postponed the second phase of the nearly 13,500 square-foot phase for two years because of the sluggish economy.

The second phase is a mirror image of the first and includes six more units. The first phase houses , an retail store, a restaurant and a tax preparation store.

The tenants for the newest phase have not yet been finalized, Iacoangeli said although the developer is responsible for the final arrangements. He said he does not believe the addition would have been constructed without the likelihood of tenants being found. The building will be designed so that appears it was constructed simultaneously, Iaconageli said.

“I would expect that they would have some tenants lined up by later this year for them to have completed the construction phase so quickly,” Iacoangeli said.

Messages left for Sant Habash LLC were not immediately returned.

Just to the east of Fisk Corners the former location of a retail stores by early next year. The build out for the current space to be split among the two national retailers is beginning this month, Iacoangeli said. He anticipates the two retailers being open to the public by the first quarter of 2012.

An out-lot of that same shopping center formerly included a Blockbuster Video, located behind off Highland Road, that went out of business earlier this year. Iacoangeli said that the building which houses Blockbuster has been purchased by an unknown party, and it is not clear yet what retail plans the buyer has for that building.

“There’s a lot of real estate speculation right now both in leasing and purchasing,” Iacoangeli said. “That’s just the nature of the commercial real estate market.”

Some inquiries have also been made to the former location of Nacho Mama’s restaurant further west along Highland Road across from the Village Lakes shopping center that houses, among other retailers, a , and . That location has traditionally been a restaurant but its small building size has made it a difficult fit. It is also zoned for small business.

“We’ve had some inquiries there as well but nothing too serious,” Iacoangeli said. “There have been some people fishing for information but no new updates.”
