Farmers Market to Feature Pumpkins

Over the course of 2011, Huron Valley Recreation and Community Education, along with the White Lake Township and Stone Cold Statuary, have provided the White Lake Farmer’s Market from 8 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturdays on the Lakeland High School Campus.

As the season ends, there are a few special days left to check out the finest produce, crafts, and baked goods in the area.

On Oct. 8 and 15, Harbor High School will be at the market selling painted pumpkins for the Halloween holiday. Under the direction of their art teacher, Jim Jenkins, the students pick which characters to paint, and then the high school art classes paint the pumpkins with sports logos and cartoon characters.

Some of this year’s favorites are Detroit Tigers, Michigan and Michigan State logos, Mickey Mouse, Scooby Doo and Taz.

The sales help the students raise money for field trips, art supplies, and other learning activities.
