Article and photos by Julia Ruffin, BOC--Liaison.

On Wednesday, July 17, 2013, Oakland County Commissioners honored one of the area’s outstanding restaurants presenting proclamations to The Root Restaurant’s owner Ed Mamou and Executive Chef James Rigato. The restaurant, located in White Lake, has brought its unique, fresh, special seasonal menu to Oakland County. It provides a casual fine dining experience with food cooked from scratch and incorporates Michigan- based products. The Root has received many awards since opening its doors in 2011 and Chef Rigato is recognized as one of the best in the industry.

The photos were taken in the Oakland County Board of Commissioners’ Auditorium, located at 1200 North Telegraph Road, in Pontiac, Michigan. The Root restaurant has been featured nationally on the Cooking Channel’s series second episode of the 2013 first season of “America’s Best Bites” and Executive Chef James Rigato was listed in the “Best Chefs America” Reference Book for 2013. These are only a few of the many awards The Root has achieved.
