Good morning, White Lake and Highland, here's what you need to know about today.

1. The weather

The National Weather Service says we can expect a chance of showers between 1 p.m. and 2 p.m., then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 2 p.m. Skies will be partly sunny, with a high near 84. Thursday night showers are likely and there's the possibility of a thunderstorm before 11 p.m., then there will be a chance of showers and thunderstorms between 11 p.m. and 2 a.m. Skies will be cloudy, then gradually becoming partly cloudy, with a low around 58.

2. Gas prices

According to DetroitGasPrices.com, the lowest reported gasoline price in the White Lake area as of Tuesday night was $3.94 per gallon at the Speedway gas station. In Highland, the Citgo station on Milford Road had the lowest gas price, $3.89.

3. On this day in history

According to History.com, in 1812, American General William Hull surrenders Fort Detroit and his army to the British without a fight. Hull, a 59-year-old veteran of the American Revolution, had lost hope of defending the settlement after seeing the large English and Indian force gathering outside Detroit's walls. The general was also preoccupied with the presence of his daughter and grandchildren inside the fort.
