1. The weather

The National Weather Service says we can expect mostly sunny skies, with a high near 86. Friday night will be partly cloudy, with a low around 64.

2. Gas prices

According to DetroitGasPrices.com, the lowest reported gasoline price in the White Lake area as of Thursday night was $3.87 per gallon at the Speedway gas station. In Highland, the Citgo station on Milford Road had the lowest gas price, $3.78.

3. On this day in history

According to History.com, in 79, After centuries of dormancy, Mount Vesuvius erupts in southern Italy, devastating the prosperous Roman cities of Pompeii and Herculaneum and killing thousands. The cities, buried under a thick layer of volcanic material and mud, were never rebuilt and largely forgotten in the course of history. In the 18th century, Pompeii and Herculaneum were rediscovered and excavated, providing an unprecedented archaeological record of the everyday life of an ancient civilization, startlingly preserved in sudden death.
