1. The weather

The National Weather Service says we can expect rain and snow showers, likely after 10 a.m. Skies will be mostly cloudy, with a high near 43. Thursday night, there will be a slight chance of rain and snow showers before 1 a.m. Skies will be cloudy, with a low around 28.

2. Gas prices

According to DetroitGasPrices.com, the lowest reported gasoline price in the White Lake area as of Wednesday night was $3.49 per gallon at the gas station located at M-59 and Bogie Lake.

3. On this day in history

According to History.com, on this day in 1975, the SS Edmund Fitzgerald sank 17 miles from the entrance to Whitefish Bay on Lake Superior, taking all 29 crew members with her. At the time of its launch in 1958, the 729-foot-long freighter was the largest and fastest ship on the Great Lakes. The Edmund Fitzgerald began its last journey on November 9, 1975, carrying 26,116 tons of iron-ore pellets. The next day, the ship and her crew met a storm with 60 mph winds and waves in excess of 15 feet.

5. 'Be Sharp!' Event Supports Community Sharing

Be sharp, a knife-sharpening event open to all, aids Community Sharing. As promised, despite the knife skills class being full, Acorn Farm promised a knife-sharpening event open to all. Watch as Ed Bartush from Wusthof sharpens your knives from 4:30 -6 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 10. The nominal donation of $3 per knife will go entirely to Community Sharing.
