1. The Weather

There is a 30 percent chance of showers, mainly before 11 a.m., according to the National Weather Service. It is expected to be mostly cloudy, then gradually becoming sunny with a high near 70. The night will be mostly clear with a low around 45. 

2. Gas Prices

The cheapest gas in White Lake is $3.96 per gallon at Mobil, 8000 Cooley Lake Road, according to Detroit Gas Prices as of Thursday evening. The best spot for cheap gas in Highland is Citgo, 2650 South Milford Road, where gas is $3.97 per gallon.

3. Big Friends Book Sale at Highland Library

The Big Friends Book Sale at the kicks off 10 a.m. Items available are paperbacks for $.50, over-sized paperbacks for $.75 and hardcovers for $1. 

4. Go Outdoors

Enjoy the last days of summer weather this year at the Highland Recreation Area. There are 5,900 acres of forest, marshes and lakes. Activities include camping, picnicking, swimming, boating, fishing and hiking. Get a Park and Read Pass from your library to park for free. 

5. Apple Fest in Fenton

Visit one of our neighbors, Fenton, and their St. John Perish Apple Fest until Sept. 16. It is the 40th annual fest and includes carnival rides, food tents, bingo, live bands and a raffle. The event is held at the St. John Catholic Church on Adelaide Street.
