Area Sledding and Ice Fishing Events Cancelled

Weather has wreaked havoc on ice and snow events at White Lake and Milford parks.

The following is a press release from Denise Semion at Huron-Clinton Metroparks.

Cardboard Classic, scheduled for Sunday, February 12 and Ice Fishing for Beginners at Kensington Metropark, scheduled for Saturday, February 11 have been cancelled, due to insufficient ice and snow.

The Indian Springs Cardboard Classic was a new event, where competitors were asked to design a two-person sled out of cardboard, tape, paint and glue. Awards were to be given to the top three fastest sleds, as well as the three most creative designs. Ice Fishing for Beginners is a program geared toward introducing the sport of ice fishing to those looking to get involved.

“There may not be enough snow for the Classic, but the Environmental Discovery Center will be open and there is still a wide variety of activities for visitors to explore, including bird watching,” said Kimberly Jarvis, western district parks manager. “Interpreters have spotted white-winged crossbills in the park, as well as other uncommonly seen species. It is a great time to take a hike and view the wildlife at both parks.”

A Metroparks vehicle entry permit is required to enter any Metropark and is only $25 annually for regular admission, $15 annually for seniors or $5 daily. General information can be found at www.metroparks.com or by calling 1-800-47-PARKS.
