Board to Interview Three Candidates Thursday

Three White Lake residents have been selected to interview for the vacant trustee position.

Three candidates will be interviewed Thursday, starting at 4 p.m., for the vacant seat on the White Lake Township Board of Trustees.

To come up with the the those who would be interviewed, each of the six board members picked their top two favorites from a field of nine. The township clerk then took those top candidates and narrowed it to the top three, based on which candidates had the most votes.

  • William Pierson — Pierson was strongly considered for the supervisor position prior to . Pierson is a corporate counsel litigator for Oakland County. He stated in his cover letter that he will be out of town until Friday but said he hopes the interview he had with the board in January for the supervisor position will suffice.
  • David Lewsley — Lewsley is the supervisor of in-house attorneys at Amerisure Insurance Co. in Farmington Hills. He has lived in White Lake since 1987 and said in his letter that he's involved in the township (serving on the Planning Commission) and has practical experience as a manager and as an attorney in addition to his education.
  • Rik Kowall — Kowall is the owner of Accurate Woodworks and Cabinetry just outside White Lake. He's been a resident of White Lake for more than 10 years and said he welcomes the opportunity to be of service to White Lake Township and its citizens. Kowall's brother, Mike, is the former supervisor of White Lake and a state senator.

After the interviews, the board may vote on the candidates. At the meeting, Trustee Todd Birkle moved to appoint Rik Kowall, but that vote failed 3-3 with Birkle, Trustee Mike Powell and Treasurer Jay Brendel voting in favor and Baroni, Clerk Terry Lilley and Trustee Carol Burkard voting no.

Lilley said at that time that it wasn't fair to vote that night because the board had just received the list of candidates and hadn't had time to go through the resumes.
