Christmas is Over – Now What Do I Do With My Tree?

Find out how to recycle or get rid of your Christmas tree in White Lake and Highland.

Christmas is officially over, and if you had a real tree this year, you may be scratching your head wondering what to do with it now.

Luckily, White Lake and Highland residents have more than one option for getting rid of their Christmas trees.

In Highland, residents can place their Christmas trees curbside between Dec. 26 and Jan. 19 for trash pick up.

White Lake residents can have their trees picked up curbside the first and second weeks in January on your regularly scheduled day. Trees over six-feet tall must be cut in half.

Or, if you just want to recycle your tree, Oakland County will accept your Christmas trees at its self-serve Christmas tree recycling locations.

Christmas tree recycling is available at 11 Oakland County Parks from Dec. 26 through Jan. 13, 2013, seven days a week, from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. All decorations must be removed from the tree.

The nearest parks are Springfield Oaks in Davisburg and White Lake Oaks in White Lake.

Extended collection dates are available at Independence Oaks in Clarkston and Orion Oaks in Orion Township, which will accept Christmas trees until Jan. 27, 2013.

The trees will be processed to make compost and wood chips that will be available to the public free of charge at Orion Oaks County Park in 2013.

Additionally, if you visit DestinationOakland.com and select "Christmas Tree Recycling," you will receive a free white pine tree seedling in the spring from the Oakland Conservation District.
