Expect 6 to 10 inches Before Monday Morning

A dangerous mix of sleet, freezing rain and snow pounding Metro Detroit.

As snow snarls traffic and blankets lawns throughout Metro Detroit on Sunday night, National Weather Service forecasters now say to expect six to 10 inches before it's over. As of 11:30 p.m. Sunday, White Lake has a reported 7.6 inches of snow.

winter storm warning is in effect and scheduled to expire at 7 a.m. Monday as the storm is expected to move east replaced by high pressure, according to the NWS.

The heaviest band of snow is now expected between M-59 corridor between Howell and Mt. Clemens and I-94, the warning said. Power outages are possible if ice builds up, which could break tree branches and snap power lines.

While Holly, Clarkston, Huron Valley and Walled Lake school districts are already closed for a mid-winter break, Waterford has yet to make a decision about whether or not there will be school tomorrow. Most government offices are closed for the Presidents' Day holiday, including White Lake Township Library.
