Heavy Rainfall Leads to Flash Flood Warning

Approximately 3 to 6 inches of rain fell across Oakland County overnight.

The National Weather Service has issued a flash flood warning for all of Oakland County through 11 this morning.

Heavy rainfall began in White Lake around 2 a.m. Many residents were awoken during the night when the thunder and lightning began in earnest.

As of 7 a.m., 3 to 6 inches of rain had fallen across Oakland County, according to the advisory.

Although most of the heavy rain had ended by 8:30 a.m., "the water will be slow to recede and flooding will continue across the warning area. Small creeks and rivers will be running high and should be avoided," the advisory said.

If flooding occurs, the weather service advises:

  • Act quickly; do not enter the water.
  • Turn around and move up to higher ground to escape flood waters.
  • Do not stay in areas subject to flooding when water begins rising.
  • Do not drive your vehicle into areas where the water covers the roadway.

The rain is expected to continue intermittently through Friday morning. The forecast for Friday and Saturday predicts sun.
