Great Candy Cane hunt

Huron Valley Recreation and Community Education is proud to announce its Great Candy Cane Hunt at the Apollo Center in Highland, which organizers hope to make an annual event.

According to Greg Morris, head of marketing and special events for Huron Valley Recreation, the outdoor event will allow children to search for prize-winning candy canes, decorate their own cookies and create holiday crafts.

Hot chocolate will be served.

The event is from 10 a.m.-noon Dec. 17 and costs $7 per child. Morris said children should dress for the outdoors, but if the weather is too cold, the course will be set up indoors.

The deadline to register is Dec. 14. You can sign up at huronvalleyrec.com.

Holiday Adventures

Looking for something fun for the children? Try Holiday Adventure Camp.

The camp, running Dec. 19 through Dec. 22, is sponsored by Huron Valley Recreation and Community Education and Heavner Nature Connections.

The camp is for children in kindergarten through fifth grade and will be at Milford Pools and Fitness. The camp will include outdoor adventures, arts and crafts, holiday Olympics, snowshoeing, dive-in movies, group activities and more.

"School-age care staff, pools and fitness staff and Heavner Nature Connections will provide your child with four fun-filled days," Morris said.

Children should wear active clothing and bring clothes for the outdoors as well as a swimsuit and towel.

Students may register for the week or a day; multichild discounts are available for weekly pass participants.

Camp hours are 7 a.m.-6 p.m. Registration deadline is Dec. 15. The cost is $44 for a day, $132 for a week or $124 for the week if you have multiple children attending. Parents are asked to pack a sack lunch for their child.
