Moms Talk: Middle School Decision

Put yourselves in the board's shoes. What would you do?

On Thursday, the Board of Education could decide the fate of the middle schools in the Huron Valley School District. Board members have three choices before them, as stated by Janet Roberts, director of community relations for the district:

  • Retain the current Grades 6-8 middle school model and close Highland Middle School or Muir Middle School.
  • Move fifth-graders into middle schools, creating Grades 5-8 buildings, and close an elementary school.
  • Relocate the International Academy West, currently housed at Lakeland High School, to a middle school building and develop a Grades 6-8 middle years program.Β

Put yourselves in the the board members' shoes. Which option would you choose? Do you have a different option?
