National Weather Service Issues Flood Warning for Oakland County

The rapid rainfall has already led to large puddles along M-59.

The National Weather Service has issued a flood warning for much of Southeast Michigan including the following counties: Wayne, Oakland, Washtenaw, Livingston, Macomb, St. Clair, Monroe and Lenawee.Β 

The flood warning will remain in effect until 11 p.m.

Thunderstorms already in the area are expected to continue well into the evening, according to the NWS. Runoff may cause flooding in low lying areas and "excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will cause flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other drainage areas."

According to the NWS numerous thunderstorms are expected this afternoon and through tonight. There is a chance that some of these storm may become sever. The strongest storms will be capable of producing large hail, up to 1.5 inches in diameter, and damaging winds up to 70 mph. There is also the possibility for isolated tornadoes.

Heavy rain and localized flash flooding is also possible.

The most likely time window for severe thunderstorms is between 4 p.m. and 2 a.m.
