I love Halloween. I like the scary movies, I like the costumes and I love all the decorations.
The other great thing about Halloween is all the fun recipes out there for gruesome, delicious foods. One of the easiest, kid-friendly recipes I've found is this one for graveyard cake.
If you're like my fiance Brian and you love pudding and Oreos, than you love this recipe. You can also decorate with as many gummy worms and gummy bugs, and tombstone cookies as you want to further enhance the Halloween flavor of this dessert.
To make this recipe you'll need the following:
- 1 package (16.6 ounces) Oreo cookies (I used the Halloween ones)
- 1 package (8 ounces) cream cheese, softened
- 1/2 c. butter
- 1 c. confectioners' sugar
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- 3 c. milk
- 2 packages (3-1/2 ounces each) instant vanilla pudding mix
- 1 carton (12 ounces) frozen whipped topping, thawed
- gummy worms, small tube of black icing, one package of Milano and any other decorations you want.
To start, crush the cookies until they resemble potting soil. Place half of the crumbs into the bottom of a 9x13 cake pan. Set remaining crumbs aside. In a large bowl, beat the cream cheese, butter, sugar and vanilla until light and fluffy. In another bowl, whisk milk and pudding mix for two minutes. Let stand for two minutes or until set. Fold in whipped topping. Gently fold into cream cheese mixture until blended. Add filling to the pan and top with remaining crumbs. Cover and refrigerate until chilled (at least one hour). Once properly chilled, decorate with gummy worms. Using the black icing write R.I.P. and draw skulls on the top half of the Milano cookies. Stick into the chilled cake to look like tombstones.
