This Valentine's Day, Shop Locally

Find the perfect gift for your sweetheart at one of these area shops.

This year, instead of frantically panicking at the last minute to find your valentine a gift, check out these local shops and gift ideas. Not only will your valentine be impressed with a unique gift, but you'll be supporting the local economy and small businesses. The following are gift ideas that can be found at stores in the White Lake, Highland area:

  • and are teaming up to offer a dozen boxed red roses with one dozen chocolate-covered strawberries and a Mylar balloon that says "Happy Valentine's Day." This package is being offered for $61.99 and must be ordered from the flower shop by Saturday. Other flower packages are also available from the flower shop, but again, must be ordered by Saturday.
  • Trifles also has an array of truffles, cookies, cakes and candies for your sweetheart. Pick out unique, quality chocolates and check out Road Candy. Road Candy was created by owner Gwendolyn Borders and is sold only at Trifles. I recommend the Michigan Road Candy flavor. It's semisweet chocolate with Michigan dried cherries, pretzels, peanuts, cookie pieces and caramel.
  • After you pick up chocolate and flowers, head over to and pick out a bottle of wine or a nice beer for your valentine. You can even customize a six-pack of beer. If you aren't sure which beer or wine to pick out, owners Devon and Bryan Faranso give great recommendations.
  • If your sweetheart enjoys handmade home items and garden goods, check out Fragments in Highland. This story is full of unique gift items and home goods made by local artists. If you can't find a gift, sign up your significant other and yourself for one of the craft classes. Classes include creating your own gift tags, Ukrainian egg decorating, rug hooking class and a wool felting class. Classes cost $25.
