Here are some of the top news stories from the week that you might have missed:

This week's Whiz Kid was Bryant Hittle, a 17-year-old International Academy student athlete.

— The White Lake Township Board of Trustees met Tuesday and discussed a number of issues, including how to fill the trustee seat vacated by the appointment of former Trustee Greg Baroni to the supervisor seat. Three candidates are expected to be interviewed Thursday. White Lake Patch will have more details Monday about the candidates and their qualifications.

— The Huron Valley School District held a public forum Wednesday to present the 5/8 middle school model to the community and to address community concerns. Our reporter Erin Bone described the meeting as intense and said discussion was heated at times. "It's clear the parents in the district are frustrated with the process," she said.

The Lakeland High School boys hockey team came out on fire Wednesday to beat crosstown rival Milford 6-2. The Eagles retained the Barber's Cup and also used the opportunity to honor the teams' seniors and their families. — On Friday, the Lady Eagles lost a tough game to Hartland in the KLAA Tournament. The Eagles fought hard to stay in the game and nearly pulled out a win.

— Jay Fitzgerald, secretary for the Friends group, submitted a guest column on the improvements made to the Haven Hill properties. The group is working hard to restore and preserve this historic White Lake landmark.

— In this week's column, Katey Meisner profiles a martial arts ministry at Calvary Evangelical Lutheran Church that focuses on spirituality and physicality of the community.
