Library Extends Food for Fines Program

Have a library fine you want to get rid of? Bring canned goods to the library by Saturday.

The has extended it's Food for Fines program through Saturday, and will continue to take donations of canned food goods throughout next week.

"Our Open Door contact person who is a daily library patron said that they haven't received many donations since Christmas and our donation collected at the library would be greatly appreciated," Library Director Larry Ostrowski said.

For every canned good a patron brings in, $1 of fines will be forgiven. However, the library can only forgive fines incurred at the library for their own items, not items from other libraries.

All donations will go to Open Door Outreach Center, a Waterford-based charity founded by St. Patrick Catholic Church in White Lake, that has been providing food and clothing to the community for 30 years.

Obviously, you don't have to have a library fine to donate, officials said. If you simply want to give canned foods to the library you can do so any time this week.
