Reverend Fr. Leo Lulko Remembered as Compassionate, Genuine Man

Fr. Leo Lulko, pastor at Church of the Holy Spirit in Highland, passed away May 26.

Pastor of the Church of the Holy Spirit in Highland, Father Leo Lulko, age 73, was called to Heaven on May 26, 2013. Born in Detroit on March 5, 1940, Father Leo was the son of Leo and Mary (Mularski) Lulko, who along with his brother, Richard, preceded him in death. He became pastor at the Church of the Holy Spirit in 1980 and was a prominent and exceptional pillar of the community. A genuine and compassionate man, Father Leo inspired his congregation and deeply touched those fortunate enough to have known him. Hearts at the Church of the Holy Spirit are heavy with this tremendous loss, but Heaven has gained an extraordinary man.

Father Leo is survived by his sister, Barbara (David) VanHellemont; nieces, Debora (Steven) Marsh, Dionne (Joseph) Wetzel, Darice (James) Hoffman, Julie VanHellemont and Mary (Thomas) McCarley; nephews, David Lulko and Donald (Darla) Lulko and many great and great great nieces and nephews.

Visitation will begin on Wednesday from 1pm – 8pm at the Church of the Holy Spirit, located at 3700 N. Harvey Lake Road in Highland. The Men's Club and Knights of Columbus will lead prayers at 7:30 on Wednesday evening. There will also be visitation on Thursday from 1pm – 8pm at the Church of the Holy Spirit. The Women's Club will lead prayers at 7:30pm on Thursday evening. The Mass of the Resurrection will be on Friday, May 31 at 11am with visitation before the mass from 9am-11am. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery. Please note, there will be no mass or service on Memorial Day at the Church of the Holy Spirit due to the passing of Father Leo.
