Lakeland Update: Welcome Back, Homecoming News

Welcome back from the Lakeland Update! We are happy to say that the first couple of days of school are under our belt and we are rolling right along for the 2012-13 school year. Here is the FIRST Lakeland Update of the school year! Here we go!

Freshmen Tailgate  

Freshmen and parents of freshmen don't forget our freshmen only tailgate this Friday from 3:30-6:30pm here at Lakeland! Check in is at the cafeteria. The tailgate will feature food, beverages, a DJ, inflatable games, and your tailgate purchase is also good for admission into the Varsity Football game starting at 7 p.m. Tickets are $15/person and can be purchased at the door at 3:30pm. Freshmen come on out, meet some fellow students in your grade and have a great time at the 2012 Freshmen Tailgate!

Homecoming 2012 - "The Final Countdown 2012"  

As school has started here, Lakeland Leadership has the pleasure of announcing Homecoming 2012! This year's theme is "The Final Countdown 2012". The big homecoming football game is scheduled for Friday Oct 5th, 2012 when our Eagles take on the Knights of Walled Lake Northern. The dance is scheduled for Oct 6th, 2012 from 7-11 p.m. here at Lakeland High School. Non-Lakeland Student Guest forms will be available later this week and online ticket sales will start next week. We are looking forward to a great Homecoming 2012! Thanks!

Lakeland Football  

Come on out this Friday as our Lakeland Varsity Football team takes on the Warriors of Walled Lake Western in football action. Kick off at 7 p.m.!

Lakeland Hockey Boosters

Girls Cross Country

Lakeland Athletic Fans,

The girls cross country team opened the 2012 season yesterday finishing second out of seven teams at the Flint Carmen-Ainsworth Invitational. In spite of very hot ,sunny conditions all 16 girls that started the 5K race were able to finish. The top seven scorers for Lakeland were: junior Nicole Clover 5th, freshman Miranda Reinhart 7th, senior Chrissie McElwee 8th, sophomore Kara Cotter 10th, junior Jamie Guckian 13th, sophomore Angela Probstfeld 19th, and freshman Jackie Negro 26th. Come out and support the girls on the first day of school when they face cross district rival Milford at Kensington Metro Park at 5:00. Races are at Possum Hollow in the park. Hope you are able te cheer for the girls in their first dual meet.

Girls Golf  

The girls golf team had a successful start to their season last week defeating W Mott 199-269 and WL Central 200-252.   Leading all scorers against Mott was Maddy Martin with a fine 46, followed by Courtney Schester-48, Jo Jo Creviston - 52, Courtney Solar - 53   Leading scorers against central were medalist Courtney Schester - 46, Courtney Solar - 47, Maddy Martin - 51, and Megan Dehetre - 56   The girls golf team notched their 3rd victory of the season with no losses by defeating WL Northern 207-225at Highland Hills Medalists for the day were Maddy Martin and JoJo Creviston with 51"s followed by Courtney Solar with a 52. Courtney Schester finished the scoring with a 53.

Lakeland Ski Team  

Girls and Boys Ski Team (Snowboarding is a different team) will be begin preseason workouts in September (date TBA). If you are interested in joining ski team, you are welcome to join the workouts. Ski Team information can be found on our website at www.lakelandhsskiteam.weebly.com, and on our Facebook page (accessed from website). We will have an informational meeting for parents and athletes in early October (date TBA). All are welcome to join the Ski Team. We welcome new and experienced skiers. I will be happy to train any new skiers as needed. The season officially begins on November 12 and concludes at the end of February. Training and racing will be Monday to Thursday from the start of the Official Season. Races begin in the second week of January.
