Rep. Bentivolio sponsors the Illegal Entry Accountability Act

Today, Congressman Kerry Bentivolio announced that he cosponsored the Illegal Entry Accountability Act of 2014, HR 5014. The bill would hold El Salvador, Guatamala, Honduras, and Mexico accountable for illegal immigration by immediately suspending U.S. foreign aid to these nations until Congress determines if they have taken sufficient action to mitigate unlawful U.S.-Mexico border crossings by their citizens.

"The Obama Administration is trying to solve the humanitarian crisis at the border -- like they do every problem -- by throwing more money at it," said Rep. Kerry Bentivolio. "The bill sends a strong message to our neighbors in Central America: have some accountability or lose your foreign aid. We can't reform our immigration system until we have control of it. This is a great start."

The bill was originally introduced by Rep. Randy Weber (TX-14) on June 30th and was referred to the House Foreign Affairs Committee. Under the legislation, assistance under the international narcotic control law enforcement program would be exempt.
