Weekend Planner: Santa Visits, Christmas Cantata, Holiday Artist Market Reception, Hike/Scavenger Hunt and Sale and Handel's 'Messiah'

Here's a look at what's happening around town this weekend.

1.

Where: Milford Presbyterian Church, 238 N. Main St., Milford

When: 7 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 10 and 5 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 11

Cost: Free-will offering

Why go: The presentation this year is expected to be bigger than ever, with a choir of over 50 singers from several local churches and selections from classical music by Faure, Beethoven, Vivaldi, Tchaikovsky, and Billings with some of the world’s most beloved Christmas carols. White Lake Presbyterian Church is participating, and this year's cantata is dedicated to the memory of the late Rev. Deborah Kerr, who grew up in the Milford church and was pastor of the White Lake church.

When: 10 a.m.-noon Saturday

Cost: Free for kids of all ages, but must call 248-698-4942 to pre-register for one of the four 30-minute time slots

Why go: Bring your camera and get great pics of the kids with Santa; did we mention it's free?

Where: Highland Oaks County Park, 6555 Milford Road, Highland

When: 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 10

Cost:  Free

Why go: Get out of the house and enjoy a winter nature hike and scavenger hunt; it's fun for the whole family!

Where: Huron Valley Council for the Arts, 205 W. Livingston Road, Highland

When:  7-9 p.m. Friday, Dec. 9

Cost: Free

Why go: Get into the holiday spirit and eat, drink and be merry at the opening reception for this event, which features one-of-a-kind artwork and fine crafts are on display as well as holiday trees decorated with the works of local artists.

Where: , 3619 Avon St, Hartland

When: 7 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 10

Cost: $8

Why go: Watch the annual Messiah performance by the Hartland Community Chorus; the holiday season production has been performed in Hartland since 1932.
