In 2011 we launched Outrun Hunger (a 5K race for charity) to raise money to feed 100 families during the holiday season. 100% of the race registrations and donations went towards that goal. In addition, a number of local area businesses donated time and services for the event.
2012 marked our second annual charity race, with the support from our community, our expectations were exceeded yet another year:
-300 people from our church and our community participated
-80 volunteers, 45 donors and 20 sponsors supported the race
-$9,206.40 was raised for Hospitality House in Walled Lake and Open Door Outreach in Waterford
-460 families in the Lakes Region were able to enjoy a hot meal at Thanksgiving and Christmas.
This year we hope to surpass our goal, and with your help, we think it's possible to attain. What motivates us is to be a catalyst for "outrunning hunger" in the Lakes Region of Southeast Michigan. Our partner organizations served 1,345 families during the holiday season in 2012.
Through Outrun Hunger we'd like to raise $12,000 and feed 600 families in 2013. We'd love to have you join us for a great cause Saturday November 2, 2013 at the Commerce Township Hall. Registration is now open at www.outrunhunger.org
