2 Injured in Highland After Car Strikes Tree

Both the driver and passenger were sent to the hospital after being injured during an early morning accident.

Two people were seriously injured in an accident after their vehicle struck a tree in Highland Township on May 25, according to a report from the Oakland County Sheriff's Office.

Police say the accident occurred around 2 a.m. in the area of Wardlow Road and Waterbury after the driver of a 1998 Jeep Cherokee lost control of the vehicle and struck two trees.

The driver was not wearing a seat belt, according to the report, and police say alcohol and marijuana may be factors in the crash.

Police say the driver was trapped in the car when police arrived, but the passenger was found sitting next to the vehicle.

Both people were sent to McLaren Hospital for their injuries, according to the report.

Police say the 25-year-old driver of the Jeep is in critical condition and undergoing surgery while the 24-year-old passenger is in critical but stable condition.
