Van catches fire in vacant lot

Police and fire were called to a vacant lot in the Meadow Lake mobile home park after neighbors reported a van on fire.

According to the report, when police and fire arrived the owner of the vehicle got out of the car and ran from the scene. He was later picked up and questioned by police.

The report states that the man told police he had been smoking in the van when he fell asleep. He woke up to a small fire in the van and attempted to put it out with a rag. This just spread the fire, the man told police in the report.

The fire was extinguished, and the police department along with an arson investigator are continuing the investigation as to the cause of the fire.
