4 Cars Set On Fire in Cedarbrook, Police Suspect Arson

Only 2 additional incidents reported, police release more details from Wednesday morning's events.

The White Lake Township and Departments are investigating four cases of suspected arson and at least two larceny from autos in , which are all related, police said.

Lt. Don Nankervis said police and fire received a call for service on Clayborn at 1:30 a.m. Wednesday. When police arrived, one car, a 1998 Camaro, was engulfed in flames.

The fire department quickly extinguished the fire, Nankervis said.

A second car in the same driveway, a 2000 Monte Carlo, also sustained fire damage.

Details on the other two vehicle fires are not being released by police at this time, but at least two other cars on Clayborn and another street (not being named by police) were set on fire. Those fires self-extinguished, and the cars sustained varying amounts of smoke and fire damage, Nankervis said.

Despite , police said only two cars were broken into around the same time, in the same area. The incidents are related to the fires, however Nankervis said the department can't release details of what was taken from the cars.

According to Nankervis, no one reported anything suspicious in the area prior to the fires.

Both White Lake's arson investigator and the Oakland County Sheriff's Department arson investigator were called to the scene of the fires. Nankervis said both processed the scenes for evidence, but he couldn't elaborate on what, if any, evidence was gathered.

"These had the potential to create some very serious situations," Nankervis said. "Those fires could have spread to homes and potentially killed someone."

Nankervis added that arsons are rare in White Lake.

The incidents remain under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to called the White Lake Police Department at 248-698-4400, or the Michigan Arson Tip Line at 1-800-44-27766.
