4 Citations Given for Underage Drinking, Pet Lizard Gets Loose During Holiday Weekend

The following information was supplied by the White Lake Township Police Department. Arrests and charges do not indicate convictions.

handed out four citations for minors in possession of alcohol during two separate incidents over Memorial Day Weekend.

The first incident occurred May 28 at 9:30 p.m. According to the report, an officer pulled over a car on Oxbow Lake Road. The driver, 20, and passenger, under 17, were both ticketed after the officer smelled the odor of intoxicants.

The 20-year-old was arrested and taken to the station where he was processed and released with a citation for the charge of minor consuming alcohol while driving - zero tolerance. The passenger, who was a minor under the age of 17, was also taken to the station, then released. Lt. Don Nankervis said the department will send a petition to juvenile court for minor in possession of alcohol, under 17.

The second incident also occurred during a traffic stop on May 29 at 2 a.m. According to the report, the car was stopped by police on M-59 near Pontiac Lake Road. The driver, 17, and passenger, 18, were both arrested and taken to the police station where they were processed and released. The driver received a citation for the charge of minor consuming alcohol while driving - zero tolerance. The passenger was given a citation for the charge of minor in possession of alcohol.

Nankervis said it's that time of the year, and that the department will be vigilant and aggressively enforcing the law when it comes to underage people consuming alcohol.

"You have a lot of open houses and prom this time of year," Nankervis said. "We will make sure we are protecting our residents and keeping kids from drinking underage and driving."

Lizard on the loose

Police were called to a home on the 3700 block of Heathwood after a White Lake resident reported a large lizard in a tree near his home.

According to the report, a large Monitor lizard broke through the screen window of the home next door to the complainant, and scampered up a nearby tree.

When police arrived, the lizard was gone and has since been missing. Police ask that if anyone sees the lizard they call 248-698-4400 so that it can be returned to its owners.
